Caffe’ Amici

Last week was our 2 year marriage anniversary, and my husband and I decided to treat ourselves to a nice dinner out. We went to an Italian restaurant here in Columbus called Caffe’ Amici, as we had heard great things and the prices weren’t insanely extravagant. The menu is perfectly sized to offer a wide variety without being overwhelming or repetetive.

We decided to get the Sautéed Black Mussels for our appetizer, which was served with slices of bread and a tangy crushed garlic white wine sauce. These were so delicious! We’re very attached to seafood (being from a coastal town in South Carolina) and these mussels hit the spot for sure!

It’s hard to see in this photo, but this was my meal. It’s called the Pollo Principessa, which is “floured chicken, sautéed with prosciutto, asparagus, & shrimp in a light garlic cream sauce.” I upgraded to a premium side to get their mushroom risotto with my meal. Let me tell you, this chicken was the most moist and tender chicken I have ever eaten! Everything about this dish was absolutely amazing. I got teary-eyed as I was eating. The risotto was tender, the asparagus was fresh, the sauce was tangy and creamy… I could seriously find no fault at all. And this portion (the small portion) only cost us $15.50!

Joe got one of their specials for the evening as his dinner. The Catch of the Day was Norwegian Halibut served with Brussels sprouts, prosciutto, and some kind of truffle cream sauce (I forget all the details). I had a small bite and the fish was absolutely divine. It was fresh and clean and tender… I don’t feel like I have the proper words to describe how delicious it was.

We finished our meal by splitting one of their homemade cannolis. I had never eaten a cannoli before that night (gasp!) so I wasn’t sure what to expect, but I was pleasantly surprised. The shell was crispy and the filling was thick and very sweet. It was the perfect way to balance out our savory meals!

Can you tell how annoyed he was that I made him wait to take a bite so I could snap a photo?

The meal was delicious, and our server was kind and attentive without hovering. The price for our meal was very well within our range and the food was seriously one of the best meals I’ve ever eaten, and Joe agrees. If you are ever in the Columbus area, Caffe’ Amici is an excellent stop for a date night or family dinner!
